A Lecture by Maria Savostyanova Mapping Indian Design

DESCRIPTION

How historical heritage and a colonial past shape contemporary Indian design.

Indian industrial design developed under the influence of millennia-old craft traditions, colonial experience, and the rapid growth of modern manufacturing. Mumbai, the center of this process, has become a city where art, craft, and technological progress converge. Here designers reinterpret ancient techniques and forms while adapting to twenty-first-century realities.

Maria Savostyanova will discuss the work of architect Bijoy Jain, studios Scarlet Splendour, Design Clinic India, and klove Studio, showing how they combine handcraft techniques with modern industrial approaches, while also comparing their work to that of Indian designers based in Europe.
