The Neon Black program of the shnit Worldwide Shortfilmfestival 2020 brings together films of very different genres and styles, including an animated neo-noir (Wouter Sel, Thijs De Cloedt), a culinary thriller (David Oesch), and a drama about sex slavery (Jianna Maarten Saada).

Sin Cielo
A man nicknamed Uncle Juan and his wife organize parties in a poor neighborhood of a Mexican city. The adults know that their activities are illegal, but Memo and Chango—two teenagers who run errands for Juan—are completely unaware. The realization of the truth comes too late—when Memo’s flame Delia goes missing. The heart-wrenching coming-of-age story is set against a reality of the slave trade and femicide.

The psychedelic animated neo-noir soaked in alcohol and sex consists of three stories from the life of Johnny—an anthropomorphic rabbit taxi driver, who speaks in a low smoker’s voice. Johnny remembers his schoolmate nicknamed Ghost Eye, who had her brutal revenge on the PE teacher who harassed her; a passenger who lost his arm and got a limb of a young girl instead; and the story of his neighbor—a stripper who murdered a man with burning eyes with a brick.
