DESCRIPTION

Garage mediators Liza Novikova and Anastasia Tikhonova welcome applications for In Search of Volume, a summer series of meetings for teens ages 13 to 16 that will focus on text and performance.

In the Museum’s spaces, teens will explore their reactions to sounds, art, and rules, and their written observations will form the basis of a performative reading. As a result of the course, a performative production will be staged publicly at Garage.

The program comprises ten meetings and will take place July 11 — August 10. Meetings will be twice a week at Garage. In order to participate, you need to fill in a form with answers to some short questions. The deadline for applications is July 8. Results of the open call will be announced on July 9.

For Liza and Anastasia, the search for volume is linked to self-expression, restrictions, freedom, and safety or their absence. Today, having to control one’s voice is an increasingly common situation. For this reason, the mediators devised a project to explore and recognize personal volume. Liza and Anastasia believe that collective lived experience allows us to find new means of revealing and discussing what is happening around us.

Within contemporary art, Liza Novikova likes to explore textuality: conceptual street art., contemporary poetry, and performative practices associated with text. Anastasia Tikhonova is interested in contemporary theater, performance, and the bodily. For her, text is an extremely important means of self-expression. Liza and Anastasia’s project is an opportunity to live personal experience through text and body and, by examining themes of concern together with those who are only beginning to get involved in contemporary art, to find new means of studying personal feelings.

Matvei Zyabrev will create the performative reading. He is a Garage Teens Team member and an actor with Binary Biotheater. Matvei is interested in theater and its interaction with performative practices and contemporary media. «In art, the main thing for me is the reflection of the person and how interaction with art allows you to see in a person transitory qualities and ideas and immortalize them.»
