Garage Triennial of Russian Contemporary Art Events

10 March – 14 May 2017

The program complements the exhibition with a series of events that offer an overview of contemporary art practices in today’s Russia and features film screenings, performances, and workshops among other events.

A series of mini conferences with speakers from the regions will offer insights into art scenes in small towns, particular areas, and regions, and tell the stories of artists who have not left for the capital, and have instead chosen to stay and work with the local culture. Artists, philosophers, curators, museum professionals, and art historians invited by the Triennial are free to choose the format of their presentation, while the choice of speakers and subjects will allow visitors to learn more about artists and works that have not been included in the exhibition.

The program features events to complement the exhibition. Implicit Impacts by Vsevolod Lisovsky is a unique performance organised as a journey where the audience get a chance to collaborate with the author. A special screening of films by Taisia Krugovykh and Vasily Bogachev offers insight into the practices of art groups Voina and Pussy Riot and artist Pyotr Pavlensky. The daylong feminist festival features a show by a feminist group from Samara and Togliatti, a discussion on feminist interventions in urban spaces and a self-defence workshop by Urbanfeminism. Finally, Little Dream in Blue introduces the audience to the practice of the FreeDanceLab from Crimea.

Garage Auditorium screenings during the Triennial of Russian Contemporary Art will feature films and videos by Dimitri Venkov, Evgeny Granilshchikov, Victor Alimpiev, BlueSoup Group and Chto Delat.
