DESCRIPTION

The ART Newspaper Russia presents a new annual project: a festival of films about art. New films will be screened that are dedicated to famous artists.

The first festival will take place in Moscow from September 8–17, 2017. Garage Museum of Contemporary Art is a festival partner. The Museum’s Summer Cinema on Arts Square will feature films about two great sculptors of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries: Auguste Rodin and Alberto Giacometti.

The ART Newspaper Russia FILM FESTIVAL program will feature winners and participants from the 70th Cannes Film Festival, the Berlin International Film Festival and the Moscow International Film Festival.

ART Newspaper Russia FILM FESTIVAL guests will have an opportunity to see the unique frame by frame painted animated film, Loving Vincent, created by a team of 125 painters, as well as Gauguin starring Vincent Cassel as Paul Gauguin; Final Portrait, the history of the sunset of the life of Swiss sculptor Alberto Giacometti; the film Rodin by Jacques Doillon; and 24 Frames, an experimental art film by the leader of the Iranian New Wave, Abbas Kiarostami.

Rodin

The film Rodin was made to mark the 100th anniversary of the death of Auguste Rodin and premiered at the 70th Cannes Film Festival. This is the story of the rise of the genius sculptor to world fame, his art, his many love affairs, and his difficult relationships with the most important women in his life.

Final Portrait

The film is set in Paris in the early 1960s where the famous sculptor Alberto Giacometti, tired of the boredom of life and excessive attention from colleagues and critics, finds peace in the company of American writer James Lord who posed for the painter. The film is based on Lord’s book, A Giacometti Portrait (1965).
