Günter Brus – Zhang Huan

Austrian painter Günter Brus (b. 1938) is a key figure in Viennese Actionism. He began his carrier with an interest in Abstract Expressionism, but later moved towards performance as the main media for his art. His shocking and controversial actions are intended to question issues of the exposure of the body and freedom in the postwar sphere. The artist’s radical interventions into conservative society are meant to intentionally break taboos.

Zhang Huan (b. 1968) has become one of the most renowned Chinese artists today with his radical performances. Addressing political and spiritual issues through an extensive and sometimes masochistic use of his body, he explores issues of violence, collective actions, and censorship. The artist finds his inspiration in Buddhism, not only for his performance art, but also for his sculptures and paintings, which have been exhibited around the world.

Entrance is free, but seats are limited. Please arrive early.
