DESCRIPTION

Travel to Spain to discover hidden meanings behind Francisco Goya’s engravings.

Screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrière is going on his last journey. He travels to Spain where the object of his research is Francisco Goya, an artist he has always admired, and to whom he devoted his film Goya's Ghosts (directed by Miloš Forman).

Shots of Spain and Goya’s paintings and engravings are interspersed by Carrière’s reminiscences about the surrealist filmmaker Louis Buñuel, with whom he worked, and his meditations on the eternal in art. Goya’s deafness, the war, emigration, the madness of the world, in which a person is easily lost, were all been captured in Goya’s striking images, which makes them very contemporary. As the French author André Malraux put it, Goya was the last of the old masters and the first modern painter.

Director José Luis López-Linares and writer Jean-Claude Carrière (Belle de Jour, That Obscure Object of Desire, Valmont, At Eternity's Gate) travel to places that played an important part in Goya’s life and revisit his work, inviting the viewer to take a look inside the world of a genius.

The film will be screened in Russian with audio description for blind and partially sighted visitors.
