A mystical journey across a desert to a post-apocalyptic soundtrack, Óliver Laxe’s film won a Jury Prize at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
A father (Sergi López) and his son go to a rave in the mountains of southern Morocco searching for their missing daughter and sister Mar, who disappeared several months ago. In hope of finding her, they join a small group of ravers on their way to a party deeper in the desert. What if she is there? But the further the unlikely fellow-travelers drive into the desert, the less clear the destination. Only the journey is left.
Sirāt means «path.» In Islamic eschatology, sirāt is a bridge, thinner than a hair and sharper than a sword, that leads to heaven and extends over hell. For the Franco-Galician director Óliver Laxe, this is not the first project focused on metaphysical categories and an aesthetic of independent humility. But here he directly addresses the state of transition and human sensibility in the last days of humanity. It feels particularly overwhelming today, when the anticipation of the end is no longer an event, but a state.
The film will be screened in Spanish and French with Russian subtitles.
