A fresh angle on Tobe Hooper’s cult horror The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
Known for his works that revisit cult films and their makers, Alexandre O. Philippe is not new to Beat: his Lynch/Oz was a hit at one of the previous festivals. His new film celebrates the anniversary of the horror classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Half-a-century after the low-budget horror about a family of cannibals shocked the world, Philippe has arranged a new encounter with the film. Five famous fans of the work, including writer Stephen King and filmmaker Takashi Miike, speak about the film and their viewer experience. They share their thoughts on why Hooper’s work had such a strong effect on its contemporaries and became part of collective nightmares and speak about its influence on their work and on pop culture. Shots and scenes that were not included in the final cut are a special treat for the film’s fans and offer a different perspective on the original.
The film will be screened in English with Russian subtitles.
