Offering insight into the often underestimated work of a casting director, Bonnie is at the same time a film about the making of films and the essence the actor’s art. Director Simon Wallon tells the story through a series of lively interviews with actors, who make faces, tell anecdotes and jokes (in an archival recording of his first casting, Viggo Mortensen cuts the small talk, saying that he has come there to work and not chat), and conversations with Bonnie, to whom these actors owe their success. An innovator who has determined what television and film look like today, she has supplied several generations with idols and transformed society by giving a chance to representatives of various minorities. «If you take a close look at some people, you can really see magic in their eyes, ” Timmermann says—and Wallon discovers the magic in hers.
