An inspiring portrait of senior New York trendsetters, whose hats, furs, false eyelashes, exaggerated jewelry, and colorful outfits are a manifestation of freedom, joy, and resistance to invisibility.
Lina Plioplyte’s documentary follows the protagonists of the blog Advanced Style: charismatic, eccentric New York ladies over 60, for whom clothes are a source of pleasure and a means of expression. The blogger behind it, grandson of a stylish grandmother, photographer Ari Seth Cohen started taking photos of stylish ladies in the city streets in 2008. His project quickly became a media phenomenon and a cultural response to the cult of youth. The film’s protagonists feature former Apollo Theater dancer Jacquie, self-proclaimed Countess of Glamour Lynn Dell, cycling enthusiast Tziporah, and other extraordinary women. Each of them defies age stereotypes and uses stylish looks to remain visible and important.
The film will be screened in English with Russian subtitles.
