DSCRIPTION

Family Days is a weekend program designed for families with children over five years old. This fall, Family Days will take place to complement the exhibitions Proof and NSK: FROM KAPITAL TO CAPITAL.

The program includes free tours for children and a special series of creative workshops guided by instructors, dedicated to the specific character of black-and-white graphics, sketching and the symbolism of fictitious states. Garage Bookshop and Garage Café offer special discounts on children’s literature and the children’s menu.

During the creative sessions based around Proof, Family Days participants will be able to try estamp printing and charcoal drawing, creating comics and animation stories, and even in designing souvenirs with one of the printing techniques.

As a support to NSK: FROM KAPITAL TO CAPITAL, workshop instructors have designed a special series of sessions dedicated to the study of the phenomenon of inventing a fictitious state, as well as to the analysis of state attributes and symbols. These are creative classes, stimulating the imagination and helping participants to understand the fictitious state created by NSK which has no territory but unites art-lovers from different parts of the world who are eager to create and communicate freely, despite the borders of their countries.

Workshops for children

Charcoal drawing

Charcoal is one of the ancient and most primitive natural art materials which has a surprisingly powerful expressive potential.  During the session we will study its characteristics, make handprints using the technique of retouching, and even create abstract drawings.

Graphics: life of a line

A line, moving and developing along the flat surface and in space—we will learn to draw without a breach of continuity.
This technique allows maximum artistic expressiveness with limited resources, develops spatial thinking, imagination, and a sense of form.

Creating comics

During the day the visitors will create step-by-step, still-by-still, a comic based on the story of adventures of the Museum’s all-time favorite—Garage Cat. Every participant of the workshop will draw only one still. However, the task is not as easy as it seems because each still must logically follow the story in the previous one. In the evening, for all visitors of the Museum to see, a piece of collective creativity will be projected on Garage Atrium’s wall—the comic.

NSK. Creating passport of a fictitious state

What is a country, what is a state? It is a particular organization of society, the citizens of a state, which has a governmental system, laws, territory, and state symbols: flag, emblem, and anthem.  In the class we will discuss which state attributes exist today, as well as invent our own states and make passports for their citizens. What do passports look like and what information about a citizen is it necessary to include in a passport? Each participant will create a passport of his own fictitious state, before that having answered a number of questions about the citizen and his role.
