Ekaterina Pavelko’s Lecture on the Film Blade Runner

DESCRIPTION

A cult classic, Blade Runner set a new standard for sci-fi filmmaking, inspired cyberpunk, and influenced the arts from cinema to fashion.

Ekaterina Pavlenko will discuss how this film noir set in a dystopia transformed the idea of future fashion, and how Blade Runner’s visualization of the year 2019 is materializing on the catwalks of today. She will explain how, through his work with the context of pop culture and its semantic layers, Ridley Scott created a film that was ahead of its time and brought us retrofuturism and cyberpunk.

ABOUT THE LECTURER

Ekaterina Pavelko is the Fashion Program Convenor at the Higher School of Economics Art and Design School and a former fashion editor at Esquire magazine.
