Date

Schedule

19:00–20:30

Place

Garage Auditorium

DESCRIPTION

Vasily Kistyakovsky the founder of the Chook & Geek comic shop will talk about the current condition and specifics of graphic novels and comics existing in the Russian book market.

As publisher Roberto Calasso wrote, “along with roulette and cocottes, founding a publishing house has always been one of the most effective ways for a young man of noble birth to fritter away his fortune”. This is also true about selling books in Russia today, and even more so—about selling comics, where the target audience and range of products is far smaller.

The Chook & Geek shop is now over seven years old and continues to grow: Vasily Kistyakovsky will explain how this has happened during his lecture at Garage.

ABOUT THE LECTURER

Vasily Kistyakovsky is the cofounder of the Chook & Geek comic shop and the publishing house Jellyfish Jam; translator (Maus, Palestina, Blankets, Here, Understanding a Comic), and teacher of the Comics section at the Higher School of Economics Design School.
