Discussion between Julia Vydolob and Eugene Rabkin: Notes on Fashion

Date

Schedule

19:30–20:30

Place

Garage Education Center

DESCRIPTION

During their conversation, Julia Vydolob and Eugene Rabkin will share their personal perspectives on the way fashion has been changing in the past several decades, on how it has influenced culture and been influenced by it, on the role of the fashion media, and the place of the fashion critic in it.

What is fashion? The answer to this seemingly banal question is actually complicated and ever-changing. Over decades of his highly opinionated writing about fashion Eugene Rabkin has tried to answer this question for himself, mostly without success. Other questions would inevitably come up—most importantly, what makes fashion good? What makes it interesting? How does it fit into contemporary culture? What is the role of the fashion media? More importantly, what is the role of the fashion critic? Does anyone care? These and other questions will be explored in his conversation with Julia Vydolob, who will share her own experience as a fashion writer and editor.
