Dance Without Dance. On the Film Jeanne Dielman. A Discussion

Date

Schedule

19:00–21:00

Place

Garage Auditorium

DESCRIPTION

Chantal Akerman’s 1975 seminal film Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles has little action: instead, it focuses on the everyday movement of bodies in space.

Do these movements create a dance, even if there are no dancers on the screen? In the discussion that accompanies the screening of the film, participants will talk about our understanding of dance, whether it is indeed present in Jeanne Dielman, the way the movement of the body constructs the narrative in the film, and the role of the camera in the process.
