The authors of the book David, Yuri Grigoryan, Alexander Brodsky, Natalia Dushkina, and Maria Tsantsanogl, will share stories from the life of David Sarkisyan and discuss how they worked on his biography.
David is a story of David Sarkisyan told by his relatives, friends, and colleagues: scientists, architects, curators, directors, artists, journalists, art historians, and museum workers. The authors of the monograph have collected an extensive material covering Sarkisyan’s academic activity and his exhibition projects in Moscow’s Shchusev Museum of Architecture.
David Sarkisyan was a researcher at the All-Union Scientific Research Institute for Biological Testing of Chemical Compounds (1976–1985), a documentary filmmaker at Fishka-Film Studios (1989–1999), and Director of the Shchusev State Research Museum of Architecture (1999–2010).
The work on the publication took several years and involved many of Sarkisyan’s friends, some of whom contributed texts, rare photographs or documentary records, while others helped to recall important or hilarious episodes from his life, facilitated communication between different authors, or simply followed the preparation process with much interest and supported the editorial board.
The book has been published as part of the MGNM Books program. Coinciding with the release of David is the exhibition Negatives at Moscow’s Roza Azora Gallery that will run from November 12 to 17.
