DESCRIPTION

Garage Museum of Contemporary Art invites students of secondary schools for deaf and hard of hearing children to a free interactive course in art and physics.

The spring course, developed by Garage’s team of experts, includes three classes, each comprising a theoretical and a practical part. Participants will visit the exhibition The Other Transatlantic and make their own art objects with artist Svetlana Bobkova and discuss phenomena like optics, movement, potential and kinetic energy with Nikita Rodin, a student of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University.

ABOUT THE TEACHERS

Svetlana Bobkova is a graphic artist, member of Russian Creative Union of Artists. She runs creative workshops for deaf and hard of hearing students and a class on art for deaf schoolchildren.


Nikita Rodin is a third-year student at the Bauman Moscow State Technical University. He runs sign language tours for deaf schoolchildren at Experimentanium Science Museum.

Op Art: Color and Optics

Participants will learn how our eyesight works and why it is so easy to trick. They will look at op art works that play with color and geometric patterns and make their own op art collages.

Kinetic Art: Movement

On Cosmonautics Day, the class will be devoted to the conquest of space and the use of space technology in art. After the tour, participants will make kinetic sculptures.

Object: Potential and Kinetic Energy

The third class will look at different types of energy. Participants will search for examples of potential and kinetic energy in the exhibition and think of other ways of applying potential energy to create art objects during the workshop.
