Garage invites Russian and international researchers who write about Soviet and Russian art to apply for the grant program Archive Summer.

Launched by Garage Research in 2018, Archive Summer offers professional researchers selected through an open call an opportunity to work with materials from Garage Archive Collection for one month.

This year, Garage is accepting applications that reflect any of the subjects covered in Garage Archive Collection, which includes personal archives gathered by some of the major figures in the history of Soviet and Russian art: artists, curators, art historians, and collectors. An important part of the archive are archives of various cultural institutions, including the Museum’s own institutional archive. Garage media archive holds over 10,000 audio and video recordings covering both key and little-known events from the history of art since the 1950s. Most of the archives in the in the collection are presented on the website of the Russian Art Archive Network (RAAN).

conditions

As well as a grant of 80,000 rubles, six successful applicants will have their travel to Moscow and accommodation in the city covered by Garage. Each participant will have access to Garage Archive for one summer month. The presentation of their findings will be discussed with each participant individually.

Requirements

Applications should be submitted to archivesummer@garagemca.org.
An email with the subject Archive Summer/ Name Surname must include the following documents:
—a CV and a brief bio (maximum 1,200 characters including spaces) in PDF;
—a brief description of the research project and the expected outcome (an article, a thesis, an exhibition, etc.) in PDF (maximum 4,000 characters including spaces). Please specify the archive materials and collections that you intend to use.
—a scan of the signed permission to process your personal data (in PDF).

deadlines

The program runs June 1–September 1, 2026.

 Applications will be accepted until May 10.

Awardees will be announced on May 14.
