Program includes compositions by John and Alice Coltrane and Anton Kotikov, as well as the band’s arrangements.
Anton Kotikov is a composer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist, lecturer, performer and producer. He studied saxophone at the Maimonides State Academy of Classical Music, and won the national flute contest My Flute in 2009. He has taken part in several national jazz festivals including Usadba Jazz, Street Fest 2010 and Festos and has played with Anatoly Gerasimov, Sergey Manukyan, Alexey Kozlov, Valeria Ponomaryova, Arkady Shilkloper, Anna Koroleva, Nino Katamadze (Georgia), Jaak Sooäär (Estonia), Vladimir Miller (England), Alexey Zubov (USA), Jerry Bergonzi (USA), Yury Chugunov Orchestra, Sergey Perov Orchestra and RamCorps (USA).
Kotikov’s music is poetic and expressive and always explores new forms and sounds.
On September 18 Kotikov will present his project HARP & JAZZ—a musical program for jazz ensemble with harp. The band will play Kotikov’s compositions and arrangements of popular melodies in different styles (classical music, blues, bossa nova, latino, ethno jazz, world music).
Most often used in classical music performances, the harp is rarely heard in jazz. Dorothy Ashby, Deborah Henson-Conant, Jakez François, Lori Andrews and Edmar Castaneda are some of the few jazz musicians who play it.
