Join clarinettist Lloyd Coleman and conductor Charles Hazlewood for a wide-ranging and thought-provoking exploration of the Paraorchestra’s work.

They discuss the company’s pioneering approach to inclusive practice, creating profound experiences that bring audiences right up close to the beating heart of live music making.

With his instrument to hand and fresh from playing in this day’s performance, Lloyd also reveals some of the challenges (and rewards) posed for musicians by Anatomy of the Orchestra’s unique layout.

To close, the audience are warmly invited to share their own reflections or questions for Lloyd or Charles.

The event is part of the UK-Russia Year of Music organized by the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Moscow with the support of the British Council.



Lloyd Coleman is a composer, clarinettist and Associate Music Director of Paraorchestra—a world-leading ensemble of disabled and non-disabled professional musicians at the highest level. Since completing his studies at the Royal Academy of Music and Chetham’s School of Music, he has worked with many leading ensembles in the UK and beyond, and performed at major festivals including Glastonbury, WOMAD, and the BBC Proms. Away from performing and composing, he presents regularly on BBC Television and Radio about classical music.

Charles Hazlewood is an award-winning British conductor Charles Hazlewood has conducted many of the world's greatest orchestras (including Royal Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, The Philharmonia, Swedish Radio Symphony, Danish Radio Symphony); he has played Carnegie Hall, the BBC Proms, and multiple festivals throughout the world, has collaborated with artists as diverse as Nigel Kennedy, Professor Green, Charlotte Church, and Wyclef Jean, has conducted over 200 world premieres, won the Berlin Film Festival “Golden Bear” for Best Film with his South African township opera company's U Carmen e-Khayelitsha; he has founded the world's first large-scale fully integrated professional ensemble of virtuoso disabled and non-disabled musicians (Paraorchestra); has authored, presented and conducted the music in multiple landmark films for BBCTV (on Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, amongst others, as well as The Beatles, Badly Drawn Boy, and Minimalism); he has won three Sony Radio Academy Awards for his shows on BBC Radio 2, composed the scores for the South African Mysteries, Dead Dog In A Suitcase (And Other Love Songs)—a new Beggar’s Opera, and a new opera The Tin Drum (these last two both Kneehigh) and has three TED talks to his name.
