A conversation on samizdat and Soviet nonconformist literature and the way they are related to zines and abstract comic books.
Galya Fadeeva’s tour will offer an introduction to the archive informed by her interest in samizdat and the artist’s book in Leningrad nonconformist art. The tour will retrace her chance discoveries, such as the draft copy of the photographic novel Ni zgi by Boris Kudryakov with attached photographs, drawings, found objects, and handwritten notes and a paradoxical classification of animals by Vladimir Erl, as well as his poems based on playing with the works of Velimir Khlebnikov. Visitors will be invited to wander around the archive based on the method of free association and to look for connections between documents from several sections and Galya Fadeeva’s work.
