A Research Trip to the Natural World Around the M4 Cultural Institutions
Four Museums, or M4, (GES-2 House of Culture, Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, and the Tretyakov Gallery) invites deaf and hard of hearing children aged 10–12 to take part in the Squeak Squeak! urban project for children.
Squeak Squeak! participants will spend time with a team of group leaders and teachers, and over two weeks they will study the flora and fauna around the M4 institutions, find its reflections within the institutions and beyond, and consider how and why people use the possibilities and resources of nature, how animals and plants inspire artists, architects, curators, and scientists, and what they can mean for cultural institutions.
The main part of the project will take place in two locations, Garage Museum of Contemporary Art and GES-2 House of Culture, from where participants will set off for the other museums. The program consists of team games, exhibition quests, walks in the park, sketching and plein air events with the Pushkin Museum and the Tretyakov Gallery, discussions about natural ecosystems and architectural structures in the park and the city, and work on a personal project which will be presented on the final day.
“Squeak squeak” is the sound of the gesture that, when translated from Russian Sign Language, means “combination.” We have used it as the name of this project to stress the combined efforts of the four institutions in the field of inclusive programs.
