DESCRIPTION

Pascal Gielen will give a talk about global art, politics and postfordism.

The Russian translation of Gielen’s book The Murmuring of the Artistic Multitude. Global Art, Politics and Post-Fordism was published as part of the joint publishing program between Garage and Ad Marginem Press (Garage Pro series).

Pascal Gielen will give a lecture titled Artistic Labor in a Flat Wet World, followed by a discussion with sociologist Alexander Bikbov.

Garage junior curator Andrey Misiano, Ad Marginem Press director Alexander Ivanov, and Ad Marginem Press editor-in-chief Mikhail Kotomin will take part in the book’s presentation.

The presentation is organized in collaboration with the Dutch educational center Nuffic Neso Russia.

ABOUT THE LECTURER

 

Pascal Gielen (b. 1970) is a sociologist, director of the Arts in Society research center at the University of Groningen (the Netherlands) and the editor-in-chief of the Arts in Society series of publications. He has written several books on contemporary art, sociology of art, and politics in culture, including The Ethics of Art, 2014; Creativity and Other Fundamentalisms, 2013; and Being an Artist in Post-Fordist Times, 2009.
