DESCRIPTION

Garage invites visitors to celebrate the tenth anniversary of inclusive programs at the Museum.

The program for the day includes adapted tours of Garage open storage and the Museum building, masterclasses for children and adults, an inclusive game of bingo with prizes, and a themed photo zone in Garage Atrium, as well as the presentation of a publication covering Garage inclusive programs over the past ten years.

Inclusive Bingo
16+

The bingo format invites participants to turn to their own experience of taking part in inclusive events and share it with others.

Each participant will receive a card describing a situation related to the topic of inclusion. Their task is to follow the host reading out the situations and mark the squares with the ones that they have found themselves in.

Players that mark nine or more squares will receive souvenirs.

About the Host

Tina Shirokostup is a mediator. An aircraft engineer training, she worked in marine aviation for over 20 years. Since 2017, she has been a mediator at Garage, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, and GES-2 House of Culture.

Participation is free with advance registration.

The event will be interpreted into Russian Sign Language.

Performance and Forum Based on Valentin Kataev’s Tsvetik-semitsvetik

Polina Shatokhina, a director specialising in social theater, will present a performance based on Valentin Kataev’s tale Tsvetik-semitsvetik. Viewers will be invited to a discussion about the representation of people with different experiences in literature and culture.

About the Director:

Polina Shatokhina is a contemporary theater practitioner, researcher, and teacher. She is a creator and director of socially-engaged theater projects.

Cast:

Maria Tukhar is an actress who studied at the Russian Institute of Theater Arts (GITIS).

Vasily Terendyushkin is an actor, director, and play therapist.

Viktoria Khrenova is an actress, teacher, and translator.

Workshop: Diverse Beads

Participants will assemble bracelets and keychains of beads of various colors, sizes, and shapes to take home as souvenirs.

About the Teacher:

Nastya Yermolenko is an art historian and teacher of art history for children.

Reading Imogene’s Antlers and a Masterclass with Art Historian and Teacher Nastya Kopysova

Imogene’s Antlers by American illustrator David Small tells the story of a girl who one day woke up with antlers on her head. Imogene keeps her spirits up and invents clever ways of overcoming obstacles, such as her family’s lack of understanding and the difficulty of going through doors.

Participants will discuss how we can think positively about the changes that happen to us and talk about their own unique traits. During the creative part of the event they will make magic mirrors that reflect their inner worlds.

Book Presentation: The Path Toward Inclusion: 10 Years of Inclusive Programs at Garage

The authors of the book will share their experience of developing and managing inclusive projects, and regular Garage visitors will share their impressions. The second part of the meeting will be organized as an open discussion over tea.

About the Speakers:

Maria Galkina is a cultural historian, methodologist in museum education at the State Tretyakov Gallery, audio describer, and curator of inclusive programs for blind and partially sighted visitors.

Anya Grositskaya is an artist, creator, and inclusive programs tutor at Garage. She graduated from the Russian Institute of Theater Arts (GITIS, Moscow), the Russian State University for the Humanities (Moscow), and the Free Workshops School of Contemporary Art (Moscow) and is a resident at Winzavod Open Studios (Moscow) and MIRA Center (Suzdal).

Lyuda Luchkova is Head of Education and Inclusive Projects Department at Garage.

Aryuna Soktueva is an artist and a regular participant in programs for blind and partially-sighted visitors at Garage.

Damir Tuzmukhamedov is head researcher at the Department of Research and Methodology of the Kholostova Moscow College of Social Work and a participant of the project Oral History.

Polina Zotova is an art historian, audio describer, and curator of children’s and family programs at GES-2 House of Culture.

Film Screening: Poor Folk. Kabakovs with Audio Description

A documentary on key representatives of Russian contemporary art Ilya and Emilia Kabakov

In Poor Folk, Ilya Kabakov discusses the early years of his career: the tragic life of his mother who influenced his worldview and his choice of art as an occupation. Together with his wife Emilia, he reflects on nonconformist art in the Soviet Union and the emergence of Moscow Conceptualism, the couple’s emigration to Europe and then the USA, and how after 30 years without exhibitions (Kabakov refused to show his work publicly in the USSR) he became an internationally acclaimed artist. Today you can find works by Ilya and Emilia Kabakov at the world’s biggest museums, including the Museum of Modern Art (New York), Centre Pompidou (Paris), and Hamburger Kunsthalle.

The film will be screened with subtitles and audio description.

Karaoke: Song of Gesture

The day will end with a performance of visitors’ favorite songs in Russian Sign Language. The event is open to all visitors, regardless of their mastery of Russian Sign Language. Participants are invited to combine singing and gestures.

About the Host

Nikolai Efutin is a director, content maker, soloist at Peterburgskaya Leksema, and maker of music videos in Russia Sign Language.

The program will be formed based on visitors’ requests. To request a song, please fill out the form by August 30.

Garage reserves the right to refuse a song request. The organizers will communicate their decision via the contact details given on the form.
