Mira Keratová’s lecture on performance art of the 1960s and 1970s and its documentation is based on her art-historical research within the context of Central Europe, with a particular emphasis on the practice of selected artists from the former Czechoslovakia. While the avant-gardists of the 1960s defined their concepts within the limits of traditional media, often appropriating and re-contextualizing the idea of the readymade, in the 1970s the tendency was to work within the reality of everyday life, documenting it in a non-stylized factual manner in the form of distributable information. Keratová will discuss the approaches of individual artists to the documentation of past events, whether performances, performative installations, participative environments or interventions in a real-life setting. Finally, she will discuss how to mediate historical conceptual art oriented towards participatory practice to the modern spectator, and how to restage historical works that often no longer exist, remaining only as potential.

Mira Keratová is a curator and art historian. She has lectured at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava and the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Technology in Brno, and she currently works as a freelance curator and curator at Central Slovakian Gallery in Banská Bystrica.
