DESCRIPTION

A group of up-and-coming Latvian artists stage their personal interpretations of Probe – a captivating performance staged by The Ansis Rūtentāls Movement Theatre in the 1980s.

Participants: Kaspars Groševs, Ieva Kraule, Kristīne Kursiša, Daria Melnikova, Miks Mitrēvics, Evita Vasiļjeva

Curated by Zane Onckule in collaboration with kim? Contemporary Art Centre, Riga

The original performance made reference to the idea of the artist as the lonely mythological figure of the ‘creator’. In these loosely choreographed variations, the role of the artist is and explored in relation to the much more complicated ‘vortex’ of relationships through which art develops today.

This exhibition is part of Riga’s programme as the European Capital of Culture 2014, conceived by the Embassy of Latvia to the Russian Federation.
