Following Contemporary Art—a family course that has become a Garage classic—has been upgraded and given a new name this year, with a number of important personalities and art movements added by the course tutors.
This family course, developed for children aged eight and older and their parents, reviews the history of modern and contemporary art through the works of twenty important artists of the nineteenth, twentieth, and twenty-first centuries, including Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, Natalia Goncharova, Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons, and Ilya Kabakov.
Each lecture acquaints the audience with interesting facts and key episodes from the life and practice of a particular artist, while also revealing the meanings behind the diverse “isms”, explains how different art movements were invented, and teaches participants how to distinguish their most recognizable features in the works of the given artist and her or his successors. The variety of materials and techniques used during the practical part of the session will help the participants to better understand the artist’s methods and develop their own creative thinking.
The course Art: Step by Stepis composed of twenty classes divided into two blocks: the opening ten classes will run from October through December, and another ten from February through April next year. Participants may subscribe to either segment; however, starting with the first block is recommended.
