Art Codes: Practicum

This class combines theory and practice. The lecture looks into the evolution of painting throughout the 20^th century, while the practical section will be devoted to making an oil painting (no painting skills required—the class will help listeners get a better understanding of the techniques discussed in the lecture).

Museum becomes a platform for discussion. An informal meeting in one of Moscow’s biggest museums is organised as a club rather then a tour: participants are welcome to engage in a discussion of works on display, share their opinions and ideas, developing an argument based on previous lectures.

The lecture explores the key principles of sacred sculpture and its legacy in contemporary art, and includes an overview of basic sculpture terms.

The lecture will provide a basis for a formal analysis of secular sculpture of any era. We will revise and add to the terminology from previous lectures, and look at how sculpture evolved from Antiquity to the Middle Ages to Renaissance and eventually, the present day.

This class combines theory and practice. We will trace the history of one of the most underestimated art forms and redefine some of the concepts that might have seemed familiar. We will work with different materials used in drawing and printmaking to get a better idea of various techniques.
