A course for those who want to learn to articulate ideas through creativity.

The course tutors include Garage Triennial of Russian Contemporary Art participant Ira Butkovskaya and Garage Studios resident and Open Workshops participant Rina Volnyh. They will share ideas with the course participants and inspire them to create contemporary artworks.

The participants of the course will receive creative tasks: to make an artist's book, learn the technique of printing on fabric, and execute sculptural compositions. Each session will also provide the opportunity to learn more about the theory and practice of art and how ideas take physical shape.

Artist's Book / Personal in Art

By creating their own books or zines, participants will explore how art addresses the intimate and private.

Color Spot / A Look at the Everyday

The group will work with the assemblage technique, learn to look at the everyday “like artists”, that is through making sketches, and select the most effective visual statements using viewfinders.

Textiles / Cultural Identity

Through learning the printing on stencil fabric techniques, participants will turn to traditional patterns and designs and discuss their role in the perception of their own identity, while also designing new original patterns.

Collage / Making an Object

Participants will see how objects with contrasting characteristics can nevertheless be part of a whole. During the session, the kids will make plaster casts and sculptural compositions, mold and reflect on what a combination of different languages ​​can produce.

The class is dedicated to making space speak—and learning how to enter into a dialogue with it. The course participants will create a model of the room and a total installation inside it.
