Artists from Vitebsk. Yehuda Pen and his pupils / Художники Витебска. Иегуда Пэн и его ученики
The artistic life of Marc Shagal started in the school of drawing and painting of Yehuda Pen (1854–1937) in Vitebsk. Shagal was not the only talented disciple of this school. The history of the Vitebsk School can hardly be understood without passing judgement on the personality of its founder who represented a type characteristic of the Russian Jewish intelligentsia of the late 19th century. This volume introduces the work of artists of this original school, many of them for the first time.
