Conversations with the Dead: Photographs of Prison Life with the Letters and Drawings of Billy McCune #122054
Danny Lyon's important third book, a documentary photo-essay shot inside six Texas penitentiaries in 1967. The book juxtaposes his gritty photographs of the prisoners' daily life with the drawings and letters from one of the inmates whom Lyon befriended, Billy McCune. Revolutionary in the 1970s, Lyon’s record of life inside the Texas prison system was one of the first photobooks to include ephemera and has been out of print for over 40 years.
