The Evidence of Film is the first book in the Garage Screen series dedicated to film.
French philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy’s essay The Evidence of Film analyzes the cinema of Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami. A deep, conceptual and, in a sense, poetic text (sympathetic to Kiarostami’s amazingly “complex in their simplicity” works) is not merely a wonderful commentary on the filmmaker’s practice—using the example of specific pictures, it reveals some fundamental and ontological processes that define the nature, matter, and philosophy of cinema.
