Garage teens team open call

Garage Museum is pleased to announce an open call for applications to take part in Garage Teens Team, an education program for young people from fifteen to eighteen years old.

If you have a creative mind, have always been interested in art and would like to know how a museum works—or if you can’t make head nor tail of contemporary art and want to understand what it’s all about, this program is for you. 

Garage is accepting applications for the new team of young people who will not only become part of the museum, but will learn from acclaimed lecturers and artists, find out about all the trade secrets and get a chance to work on their own projects.

Participation is free. The course starts in mid-October 2016.

Garage Teens Team was launched back in 2013, when twenty-three young people began investigating the artistic environment of contemporary Moscow; studying the history, theory and practice of contemporary art, and the museum professions—participating in real Museum initiatives in the process.

In the first year, the team were involved in the 2014 edition of Art Experiment, conceiving their own game-based architectural installation. The first research project, fully carried out by Garage Teens Team—The Moscow Art Map: Our Scale—premiered in May 2014.  This project exhibited five visual and textual portraits of artists representing the diverse generations and movements of contemporary Russian art, including Yuri Albert, Andrey Kuzkin, Leonid Tishkov, Boris Orlov and Viktor Pivovarov.

Since its launch, Garage Teens Team’s achievements have included a Film Club within the Art 21 Museum film program; Teens Talk—tours of Russian Performance: A Cartography of its History; the exhibition project The Sixties: Points of Intersection, which explored the 1960s through the team members’ family histories; and The Steps—a series of public events exploring the issues that young people think about when it comes to art.
