DESCRIPTION

We specially commissioned Pulse Spiral for the opening of the Garage.

The installation was a three-dimensional spiral paraboloid made up of 400 light bulbs arranged according to Pierre De Fermat’s 17th-century equation to explain the most efficient spatial distribution of objects on a surface.  In nature, the leaves and stems of plants grow in the same structure (phyllotaxis). The work was interactive; participants held a sensor beneath the spiral, which recorded and responded to their individual heart rates.
