Tour to Frieze London Art Fair

Date

DESCRIPTION

In October 2018, Garage patrons were invited on a trip to Frieze Art Fair in London.

Founded by Amanda Sharp and Matthew Slotover in 2003, Frieze has become one of the biggest art market events in the world, competing with Art Basel in Basel, Miami Beach, and Hong Kong, and the Armory Show in New York. Garage patrons visited the Regents Park Frieze pavilions designed by Caruso St John accompanied by Garage curators Anastasia Mityushina and Snejana Krasteva.

They also attended the Sotheby's auction where the work Girl with Balloon by Banksy famously shredded itself as it was sold and visited the studio of the famous architect Asif Khan who designed Serpentine Summer House in 2016 and the UK Pavilion at the Astana Expo in 2017. In 2018, Khan was invited to reconstruct Tselinny Cinema in Almaty, which will reopen in 2020 as Kazakhstan’s first museum of contemporary art.

On this trip, patrons also visited the Serpentine, Whitechapel and Chisenhale galleries and watched a football match between Chelsea and Videoton at Stamford Bridge.
