Irina Korina is inspired by everything around us and can even use ugly and unpleasant things like excess illumination and Konstantin Stanislavsky’s fears to create attractive works.
Often, the artistic effect of Korina’s objects and installations is based on the ability to underline unobvious similarities between things or to embody conditions and sensations through the use of unexpected materials. This tactile sensitivity and tenacious gaze are trained through regular work with nature, and for this reason Irina suggested a plein air event involving creating outdoors using her own technology, appliqué «a la prima» (without sketches, from nature). Irina Korina regularly uses this practice herself and together with her students. It is a very good exercise not only for focusing attention and using color but for releasing pent-up emotions, since Korina suggests cutting the necessary forms not with scissors but by ripping them. In addition, as the artist notes, «the analysis of what you see and feel when seeking something inspiring or puzzling immerses you in the present moment, and that is true love.»
