A Conversation with Elza Abdulkhakova about Combining the Identities of Dance Artist and Curator in Practice

Date

Schedule

19:30–21:00

Place

West Gallery

DESCRIPTION

In her creative practice Elza Abdulkhakova combines the identities of dance artist and curator, sometimes rejecting one of them and sometimes accepting both.

In recent years, Elza has run open classes on bodily-oriented practices and choreographed performances, launched several dance projects and participated in two very different dance education programs.

While showing documentation of her works and colleagues’ projects (such as the festival Dance that is Crazy about Itself and Love by SDVIG Studio), Elza will discuss the basis of and resources for continuing work in Russia. «With no possibilities to leave, I choose the theory of small deeds and the necessity of continuing my artistic practice. I do not accept strict oppositions as theory vs practice, brain vs body, text vs movement, artist vs curator, instead seeing them as interconnected, like a single field or space for unique experience, ” says Elza.
