Five classes in Russian Sign Language will make your museum more accessible to deaf and hard of hearing visitors.
Just as a visit to the theatre begins with the cloakroom, a museum experience begins long before the visitor enters an exhibition. To make museums more open and friendly to hearing-impaired visitors, Garage is launching a brief summer course in the basics of Russian Sign Language for museum staff. The course will dispel myths about deafness and raise awareness of the need to and create new programs and adapt the existing ones for deaf and hard of hearing visitors.
In five classes, Garage’s Inclusive Programs manager Lyuda Luchkova will tell the group about working with deaf and hard of hearing visitors and teach students the basics of fingerspelling and Russian Sign Language.
