DESCRIPTION

New intake of students for a six-class beginners course in Russian Sign Language to make museums more accessible for deaf and hard of hearing visitors.

Just as a visit to the theatre begins with the cloakroom, a museum experience begins long before the visitor enters an exhibition. To make museums more open and friendly to hearing-impaired visitors, Garage is launching the fourth short course in Russian Sign Language for museum staff. The course will dispel myths about deafness and help museums better understand their visitors. In six classes, Garage’s Inclusive Programs manager, teacher and signer Vlad Kolesnikov will tell the group about working with deaf and hard of hearing visitors and teach students some basic phrases in Russian Sign Language.
