The Art of Controlled Breaks (Circuit Bending) from Garage Studios Resident Maxim Anpilogov

DESCRIPTION

Circuit bending is a means of transforming a device into an artwork or an element of one by creating interference, short circuits or other “errors” when completing the image or sound.

In order to “bend” an object, you need to introduce changes in the primary connections of the circuit board. Maxim Anpilogov will talk about the pioneers of bending, their inventions and techniques, and about his own research into this theme, including showing his own audiosculptures. The discussion about using bending and, more widely, modding in cinema, art, and music will be accompanied by an analysis of all kinds of devices that can be used for audio and visual bending: video mixers, video cameras, photo devices, homemade synthesizers, kids’ sound toys. The meeting will end with an audiovisual performance by the duet barkal x wiiu wiiu (Vera Barkalova and Maxim Anpilogov) using homemade audio and video instruments.
