DESCRIPTION

Finding Vivian Maier is a documentary about a mysterious nanny who took over 100,000 unique photographs around the world that were only discovered after her death.

The find has shaken the world of photography: Maier’s retrospectives attract crowds of visitors, critics have included her on the list of last century’s best photographers, and thousands of young artists are inspired by her work and try to imitate her style. Filmmakers John Maloof and Charlie Siskel tell the captivating story of Maier’s life and work using the few photographs she took of herself, some of her short films, and interviews with her friends, who were unaware of her talent.

Maier’s work came to light in 2007, when her archive was discovered at a Chicago auction house. This discovery also changed the life of John Maloof, who brought Maier’s work to the public eye and continues to reconstruct the missing parts of the archive and promote it to museums.
