A Super 8 adaptation of Elfriede Jelinek’s macabre novel of the same name, the ironic experimental horror by an American artist duo revisits the aesthetics of silent film.
The founders of the New York Nature Theatre of Oklahoma, Kelly Copper and Pavol Liška, have adapted the novel about the rise of the dead in a small Austrian town by the Nobel Prize winner Elfriede Jelinek on Super 8 and with a cast of non-professional actors. An ironic horror playing with silent film aesthetics, The Children of the Dead
revisits serious issues relating to the Austrian identity, the history of Nazism, and contemporary xenophobia. The film produced by Ulrich Seidl won the FIPRESCI Prize in the Forum section of the 69th Berlinale (2019).
