An undocumented immigrant and filmmaker travels from Los Angeles to New York, watching the landscape change as he crosses the country. More than an inquiry into the issues associated with migration, Miko Revereza’s film is a poetic and personal story about travel, trains and America.
Miko Revereza was born in Philippines in 1988 and moved to California with his family at the age of two. Interested in photography and film since his school years, he did not receive a BA degree and went straight to do an MFA at the prestigious Bard College. Today, his films are shown at international film festivals.. His new film is based on the footage he recorded on a journey he took a year ago.
Instead of a political comment on undocumented immigration that one might expect from an artist who has to struggle for the right to remain in the country where he grew up, Revereza has produced a picture about a journey across the States, which is at times poetic and at times disturbing. Landscapes change in the window; the sun gives way to rain; and time flows slowly. Occasional fellow travelers tell their stories. The danger of an encounter with the authorities remains present, but then again, a journey always means taking a risk.
