A leporello is a concertina book where several pictures (originally postcards) make up a single story. The possibility of quickly unfolding the entire narrative while also observing its length and entirety involves an artistic effect that is interesting to experiment with.
Ulyana Podkorytova, who is the author of leporello books in the Garage collection, suggests going further by inviting participants to also practice the basics of verbatim (documentary theater that works with live text). After creating a text, each participant will try to develop their visual language. They will be helped by the subjects of an inspirational short presentation, the artists and composers Yuri Zlotnikov, John Cage, Krzysztof Penderecki, and Cy Twombly. After translating their own words into emotional-graphic symbols, participants will turn them into little books under Ulyana’s careful supervision.
