A public talk by the host of the podcast This is a Fail Kristina Vazovski with Maria Palnikova, Alexey Novoselov, and Anna Trapkova who will discuss what it actually feels like to work with contemporary art.
Who are curators and what do they do? Does one have to study at university to become a curator and what personal qualities should a potentially successful representative of this profession have? What percentage of graduates do really work in their specialty? Who else is involved in the foundation and development of a contemporary museum institution?
To find answers to these and related questions, the host of the podcast This is a Fail Kristina Vazovski brings together the head of Garage’s joint master program with NRC HSE Curatorial Practices in Contemporary Art Maria Polnikova, the Museum of Moscow director Anna Trapkova, and deputy director at MMoMA and commissioner of the 7th Moscow International Biennale for Young Art Alexey Novoselov. The participants will discuss the specificity of their work in modern museums and why it is usually less romantic than it seems, and will share their personal curatorial experience from the perspectives of a disenchanted student, education program developer, practicing curator, and employer.
