DESCRIPTION

This series includes the introductory overview lecture A Brief History of John Baldessari, as told by Daria Pyrkina and public talks with Russian artists moderated by Pyrkina.

Based on the documentary A Brief History of John Baldessari (Henry Joost, Ariel Schulman, USA, 2012), the lecture provides a detailed commentary on the key milestones in the life and creative work of John Baldessari, the "Godfather" of Conceptual art. The film covers the artist's cremation of his early works, his use of photographs, photo collages and texts, his passion for the films of Jean-Luc Godard, his vow not to "make any more boring art," and his declaration that any act performed by an artist is a work of art.
