President of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, and formerly Director of the Museum for over fifty years Irina Antonova will discuss with Garage Museum Director Anton Belov what dedicating a life to art means and how to inspire those around you by just doing your job.

Irina Antonova and Anton Belov will share their experience of how they found a space for art inside themselves, as well as how to manage cultural institutions, shape the perception of art and, ultimately, create history. The speakers will also discuss the importance of mutual influences between different generations of audiences and the interdependence between classical and contemporary art.



Irina Antonova was head of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts for 52 years. She is chief curator of Russian state museums; Honorary member of the International Council of Museums UNESCO; Academician of the Russian Academy of Education and the Russian Academy of Arts; Honorary Doctor of State Humanitarian University, and Honored Artist of the Russian Federation. She was awarded the State Prize of the Russian Federation; Order of the Red Banner of Labor; Order of the October Revolution; Order of Merit for the Fatherland 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4rd Class; National Order of the Legion of Honour (France).



Anton Belov has been Director of Garage Museum of Contemporary Art since 2010. Prior to this, he founded the nonprofit Project Gallery White, designed to engage young artists and help them develop new projects. In 2009, he started publishing the bilingual magazine and online resource ARTGUIDE, dedicated to the coverage of contemporary art in Moscow, which has since become the leading publication of its kind. Belov was a member of the Public Council of the Russian Ministry of Culture from 2012 to 2013. He is a graduate of the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys (NITU “MISA”) with a degree in physics and chemistry.
