From Art to Teaching and Back Again: A Meeting with Vasily Kononov-Gredin

DESCRIPTION

Artist Vasily Kononov-Gredin is unusually flexible. He is interested in global themes: the space of memory, the aspirations and expectations of people in the contemporary epoch and their visual and spatial metaphors. As a teacher he is focused on the personal interests of the student and carefully organizes space for growth.

The meeting at Garage is about artistic practices and how making art led to an understanding of the importance of teaching and its evolution. The artist will also share his teaching techniques, giving participants new tools for everyday communication with children, colleagues, and their creative work. To conclude the meeting, participants will explore performance and poetry, bringing them together in a single action.

“The time in which we live places restrictions on our expression, but language and art are a flow, and, like any flow, they can spring from and slide into any direction, despite restrictions. I am interested in helping viewers to produce a message about themselves, something that is almost poetic, where the only thing remaining from poetry is the intonation and poetic code.”
