How to Make Friends with the City. A Walk and a Meditation by the Gulag History Museum

Date

Schedule

19:00–21:30

Place

GULAG History Museum

DESCRIPTION

The city can be perceived from many angles—as a space between home and work, as an infrastructure, as a recreation and meditation area—but it can also be considered a historical system within which people interact.

Walk participants will get to know Moscow’s Samotyoki district, where the Gulag History Museum is located, and learn how to accept the city, get to know its specifics and its secrets, and hear the stories of people, buildings, and streets. The leader of this masterclass, which will take place outdoors in the urban space, will demonstrate simple ways to study history, get acquainted, and make friends with the city.

The walk will be led by Konstantin Andreev, head of the Gulag History Museum education center, and will be followed by a group meditation session in the Museum’s Garden of Memory.

The masterclass is part of the project Silence.
